What is going on in Iran?

Ramin Mehmanparast, the spokeperson of the Foreign Ministry in Iran said in a press conference that one of the imprisoned Americans will be released on Saturday. It was said that one of the Vice Presidents will participate in this ceremony in Saad Abad. In a surprise move, the Public Prosecutor General, Abbad Jafari declared no American is to be released soon and this " news" can not be confirmed by Iran's juridicial authority. This official statement begs the question, what the hell is going on in Iran? Mehmanparast stated however, that it was mainly due to efforts by Ahmadinejad that the woman prisonor was to be released. Let me put my "Dear Uncle Napeloan"* 's hat on, I think, economic sanctions are becoming increasingly more painful and Ahmadinejad tried to show a "friendly" face and gesture to the American- espeically as he will be travelling to New York soon - hopefully to prevent further sanctions to be imposed. But at the same time, the other faction, i.e. led by the Grand Ayattolah Khamene-ii who are either against this flirting with the US or wish to flirt themselves intervened to stop the release and hence, effectively discredited Ahmadinejad's Office.
I am just guessing....

* A character invented by Iran's great satirist Pezhekzad which is nowadays used as a metapher for someone who wishes to explain everything by conspiracy.
